visiting Boston

Hello everyone. I am a baby chowhound from the San Francisco area who will be visiting the Boston area for the first time in May. I plan to stay in the Tremont Boston hotel located I think on Tremont and Stuart close to the New Eng. Med. Ctr T station (I heard about all the parking and driving problems so I figure this hotel is in downtown and close to the subway or the T according to the tour book).

Please recommend any great restaurants close by.

Budget: I can go as low as $10 to $100 per person for lunch or dinner before drinks as long as the food is great.

Types of Cuisine: My first choice will be any unique Boston Cuisine (if there is one). Second choice is anything. I have to admit though I am not a pizza lover and I don't frequent Morton's or other steak houses.

First priority: SAFETY. I hope I am choosing a hotel in a safe neighborhood. PLEASE tell me if I am not. Since I plan to take the train/subway during my entire visit (4 days) and I am a woman there alone, I want to make sure I stay safe. I don't have any problems dining at any kind of restaurant alone.

Thank you everyone in advance. Hope to see you guys chowing in the SF Bay Area!
