I tried a second time this past Sunday, and am unlikely to go back.
First, the food is good, though uneven. Both times I have had thing that were excellent (this time the cavatelli with sausage and fennel seeds), and things that were uninspired (this time the pork loin). I know Tuscan cooking is not salty, but the pork loin tasted like water to me. Last time it was the octopus appetizer. No taste at all!
More importantly, no matter how good the food is, it isn't worth the aggravation. The owner is a schmoozer who goes gaga over his friends when they come in and utterly ignores others. When we came in (early) we were one of only a couple of tables and he was attentive. He quickly lost interest as others arrived. Not smart as we were a table of 4 who had already ordered 2 bottles of wine...in other words, we were not a cheap group.
They had one waiter on the floor plus the owner (I assume the guy in the suit and Chuck Taylors is the owner...) on the floor. The owner waits on his pals and the waiter is over his head, but serves with a great flourish. Getting the check is difficult.
Finally they came to measure how much wine we drank from the "by consumption" bottle (who knew?) which we had finished about an hour earlier. That, apparently, was what was holdimg up the check.
I think twice is enough. They won't get me a third time.
