Stopped in Chatham & Campbell, a kinda precious little cafe (1st Ave btwn. 6th & 7th) for my morning coffee, and discovered a glass jar on the counter filled with "Margaret Palca's rugelach." Now, I've never been to The Source, but I know the high regard in which these babies are held, so I got a couple for the road (at a truly unjust 60 cents each!).
I'm holding off any final decision till I get to the bakery in Brooklyn, and get to try the cinnamon ones, but my loyalties remain with Moishe's. Don't get me wrong, these were really, really great, but they seemed a bit too much--too much filling in the middle (these were apricot, I think), too much cream cheese in the dough. Moishe's are, I think, more subtle and holistic.
But anyway...for those wanting to do a side-by-side taste test (which I certainly plan on doing), there's a new rugelach on the block.
