Village Bakery in Costa Mesa

I dropped by the Village Bakery yesterday after reading about it on this board -- I was very excited to try a bakery that isn't commercialized here in OC because I think we seriously lack in this area (we could seriously use a Tartine, Balthazar, original La Brea Bakery). Anyways, here is what I got and what I thought:

Olive Sourdough Bread -- very rustic looking and quite good. Not as much depth of flavor as I would have liked, but a welcome addition to this area (especially since I think LBB products at Gelson's are quite bad). The breads come in various flavors, including rosemary and walnut. Foccacia and baguettes are made on premises, too.

Granola -- excellent. Homemade with dried fruit, nuts and whole grains. Not overly sweet or fatty.

Croissant -- now, I'm not a croissant afficiando, but this was among the best I've had. I usually don't care for them because they're overly greasy or too bready. This one was flaky, with a great butter flavor and NOT GREASY. Yum!

Almond Macaroon -- not bad, but not as good as the ones I used to get in Boston from Italian bakeries, which probably isn't surprising. Came with pine nuts sprinkled on top and could have been a bit sweeter.

Village Bakery also carries scones, chocolate croissants, sandwiches, chocolate espresso cookies, gingersnaps, other various cookies and goods. I think the location isn't the greatest. The new mall sort of has a new age vibe, with native plants, a yoga studio, various other stores. The bakery is kind of hidden in the midst of this... Hours are roughly from 9am to 3pm during the week, with different hours on Sunday.
