Viko's Cafe

Viko Ortega (of La Flor fame in Woodside) opened (as of 10/16/04) his new restaurant, Viko's Cafe (41-07 National St., Corona, near Roosevelt Avenue). I went there today for lunch and had a great meal.

Many of the menu items (see link below for website which contains their menu) are holdovers from La Flor (that's a good thing). I had crab cake on top of a corn relish. The crab cake was excellent and the fresh corn and vegetables underneather were just as good. I then had the Carne Enchilada ("chili & spiced marinated pork loin with chipotle mayonnaise" as described on the menue) which was made into a torta (sandwich) with lettuce tomato. Most excellent. My wife had the grilled salmon cornbread salad and loved it followed by the equally delicious chicken quesadilla.

The lovely waitress (recognized by us from La Flor) gave us a complimentary dessert (a delicious slab of italian style cheesecake). After a gut-busting meal like that, the bill was $29 for the two of us.

The space is narrow but deep with a bar in the back (not sure if they have a liquor license yet) and is attractive. Afterwards, you can go to the Tulcingo Bakery on the next block and peruse a large selection of Mexican baked goods, spices and groceries.

I'm very excited about this new restaurant and hope that many of you make it a point to try it out.
