Hi there - I was hoping to get the benefit of the knowledge of some of the London gourmands on here. My wife and I are thinking of going to L'Oranger, which we have never been to before, but know by (positive) reputation, for my birthday.

I was slightly worried to see a few extremely adverse comments, which I won't go into here, on various net review sites, but all seem to have been posted at around the same time and possibly even by the same person, so I am not sure how seriously I should take them. Most of the "proper" guides seem to rate the place very highly. Does anyone have any personal experience they can share, and/or alternative recommendations for similar places (French/Modern British, good but not ruinously expensive) in North West or central London? Petrus and L'Escargot come to mind. We are regulars(ish) at Bradley's in Swiss Cottage and Odettes in Primrose Hill but want to expand
our horizons a bit!

Thanks
