Last night was my birthday which I always celebrate by having a nice dinner alone with my husband, and this year I chose Veritas based on Chowhound recommendations. In short, THANK YOU SO MUCH! The room was very mellow, quiet, and understated and the service was unobtrusive and friendly without being obsequious. I opted for wine by the glass because my husband doesn't drink wine, but I was pleased regardless with the selection. I started out with a glass of the Laurent-Perrier Rose Brut (yum) to accompany the amuse-bouche of citrus cured salmon over slices of cucumber in creme fraiche AND my chosen appetizer of seared foie gras with quince/hazelnut/vanilla sauce. I love foie gras, and I thought this simple yet flavorful treatment was just great. Creamy, savory and sweet. Even the rolls were good (I had the semolina fennel-raisin and the rosemary almond bread). For an entree I had the seared black sea bass with foie gras emulsion and wild mushrooms - just excellent and I had that with a Riesling Kabinett that just made me want to sing. I had the black forest cake which were thin layers of dark chocolate cake with bittersweet chocolate mousse and kirsch served with kirsch-soaked black cherries and a small dome of dark chocolate sorbet. I closed the meal with a 1986 Sauternes -- SO HAPPY. I fear my trip to Annisa on Tuesday will be a letdown - but oh well....
