noticed a new-ish french? bistro on fulton between south portland and
south oxford a few weeks back and noticed that they had no liquor license
yet. this got the best of my parsimonious self as i knew i could bring
my own bottle of vino and have a nice inexpensive dinner out.

got there at 7pm and only two other tables were occupied. it was
a beautiful friday evening in ft greene as the 3 of us took the table
right inside the open doors. they have no ice buckets for the white
wine, so make sure it's nice and cold when you bring it in. maybe they're
on order. anyhow, she opened up our rosemount shiraz and we started
on our wine... for starters, i had the baby spinach salad w/ bacon
and goat cheese which was fine. for entree, i had the pan fried
skate with asparagus spears and mashed potatoes. the fish was okay, but
the spears were burnt to a crisp and mixed w/ the potatoes, it was all
soggy. not good at all. the other dining partners did not have any
stellar comments either..

one good thing was the attentiveness of the bus-girl/woman in bringing
us new canteens of water every time we finished drinking it..i don't
think the place had air conditionig yet either, as it was hot and
humid on friday evening and they only had a fan on.

after 1 hr 45 minutes and not ordering dessert, the woman asked us to
bring out drinks to the bar, since she needed the table. i didnt'
see anyone waiting for tables, though. a nice welcome to the neighborhood
though. i'm sure once the kinks are ironed out, they'll be okay.

prices for apps were from 5 to 7.50 and entrees from 12 to 17 or 18. not
too bad.
