Vasili's makes for a great lunch while in Santa Cruz. It is behind a falafel restaurant and kitty corner from the newly rebuilt Cafe Brazil. Parking is very tight and I would recommend going for a late lunch. This area of town has a concentration of restaurants with pretty inexpensive specials since it is right near Bay St. which takes you right up to the UCSC campus. I had the special-Greek meatballs in pita and it is stuffed with fresh lettuce tomatoes and cucumbers. I love it when restaurants balance the meat with the produce. The tzaziki was deelicious, meatballs were crunchy and flavorful, and the pita was soft and thick. The sandwich came with a huge protion of very hot and crispy french fries with a secret Greek seasoning sprinkled on top. No ketchup needed. The olive appetizer was generous and had the kalamata, green and very deelicious black dried olives. Plenty of leftovers for later snacking. I will be back.
