Hi Chow BC

I'm in town (Vancouver Fairmont) from LA solo for a few three nights and would like your recommendations.

I'm usually a big fan of street food and saw Mr. Shawarma's truck. I also love Indian food and am thinking of Vij's. The problems I have though are whenever I go to places like these I'm disappointed. I grew up in Pakistan, Qatar and Africa before moving to the US. As such, my taste-buds are always crying in the West due to lack of spice (either heat and or taste) and nothing "authentic" about Arabic/Indian/etc. food. No offense, it's just me.

So I'm hesitant to even try these places as "Must-go-tos" and am even considering a nice multi-course meal of any genre, just nice, (away from kids enjoying my quiet space nice).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Price is no problem. Again, I'm more at home in a dive bar chewing on wings and watching the old man in the corner slowly slump his way to the floor, but also I'd like not to miss out on a great meal if I can.

So great meal, Indian, spicy, street food, wings, dive bars. Anything in those categories somewhat close to the Fairmont and thank you and yes I know they are broad so any ethnic must-have in Vancouver will also be appreciated.

Being from LA maybe Mexican food is out.

edit - Just saw "Phnom Phenh" on Yelp, looks great and about what I'm thinking, any Chow negatives? I know Yelp cannot be reliable at all sometimes.

And "Yew" for my nice meal? Both are near my hotel from what it looks like, and both get great reviews.
