Valentine's chocolates

Professor Salt | Feb 2, 200611:52 PM

I'm thinking about really special chocolates for my hunny on Valentine's Day. I'm thinking of truffles, but maybe yer hunny likes other kinds of chocolate treats. If so, where's good?

I want to do better than, say, Godiva, Valentino, etc whose products must be sturdy enough to withstand shipping from Europe. This means a thick outer layer of chocolate on the truffle, and fillings that aren't as delicate as locally made chocolates. Which are your favorite places, and what's espececially good there? I'll start:

LA county:
Jin Patisserie (Venice) - pretty much any of their truffles, are good but the black sesame and passionfruit are favorites.

Boule (Beverly Center) - good truffles & pate de fruit. Pick up a wee cup of ice creams while you're there. Has the snooty attitude changed in the last year?

Orange County:
Chuao Chocolatier (Irvine) - Delicate, handmade truffles. I like the Spicy Maya hot chocolate.

I heard today about Chocolate Soldier in Dana Point. Haven't tried yet. Anyone have intel on them? What other OC chocolatiers make exceptional handmade chocolates?
