Based on recommendations on this board, went to Valbella in Old Greenwich for a pre Valentine's Day dinner last weekend. Very crowded and noisy, very professional service. Menu is primarily Northern Italian, but the restaurant focuses on an exhausting list of specials, not necessarily Italian. Had a gorgonzola and endive salad, which was fine and an excellent sea bass in mashed potato crust with a beurre blanc sauce, only marred by being served on a bed of escarole mixed with a weird assortment of beans of various types and sizes. Date had beef tenderloin which she liked and was perfectly cooked. Desserts were very ordinary-had ricotta cheesecake which was just average.
Major ripoff warning on the bar if you're waiting for a table. 2 glasses of sparkling water were $14. One couple I saw ordered a glass of house merlot and a glass of Champagne-total $23. Otherwise salads were $10, Entrees $24-30, apps $15-18, desserts $7.
