Uzbekistan and Zhiguly

rastan | Jun 22, 2005 06:44 PM

I've got a question that relates to the "Beer is Food" mantra that we heard in the discussion of rauchbier/smokebeer from few weeks ago.

I ate at Uzbekistan a while back (Sunset/LaBrea, near Mashti Malone's) and had a huge, multi-course meal that included a great Lithuanian beer called "Zhiguly". I found that it was even better than the different Baltikas they were offering (I forget which numbered Baltikas they had at the time), and it was STRONG (something like 9.5%).

My question is - where can I find a store that sells Zhiguly? Has anyone else enountered it? If I have to go back to Uzbekistan to get more, so be it - but finding it at a store would be preferred.
