I'd posted several weeks ago that the croutons at Square One on Fountain were cut so precisely that I suspected they were packaged. I have been informed otherwise. They are hand-cut from brioche. The brandade which I noted was a bit too rich has been removed from the menu. I just ate a lovely cured salmon sandwich on hazelnut bread and a bizarre take on tarte tartin using polenta and creme anglaise which worked incredibly well, the polenta acting like a shortcake to absorb the delicious juiciness of the apples. I'm trying to talk the owner into making dinners to go--a dire need of which exists I think in the Silverlake area. If you see 'em, tell 'em we want 'em to make us dinner to take home. BTW, things were a little slow there when we stopped by for our late weekday lunch. Apparently things are hopping on the weekends but we need to keep this place on our radar during the week to insure their success for our own selfish purposes.
