I moved to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan several years ago from upstate NY. And, while I love the peacefulness...the ethnic food is nonexistent or worse yet...absolutely hideous. I haven't had a good slice of pizza since my last visit to NY. And greek and lebanese food is impossible to find. *sigh* There are a few ok chinese places, but nothing spectacular.
I joke with my husband(native Yooper) that Michigan marinara is heintz ketchup. And grocery stores...blech..ok enough ranting. Last summer I went to the Grand Hotel with a friend for dinner. And had a nice time. The food was bland at best, the wine very nice, the service excellent...but the dessert. OMG I had the most fabulous Green Tea Creme Brule. To Die for. I've looked for ages for a recipe and cannot find one. Anyways if anyone else is familiar with the upper penninsula and northern michigan dining...*hopefully ethnic* I'd LOVE to hear from you about your favorites. Thanks :)
