Upi Jaya report

Core | Jun 26, 2005 10:11 PM

It's now my third time to Upi Jaya and this time I tried the following dishes:

Tahu Goreng Sumedang - identical to Tahu Isi (stuffed tofu). Still very good; big slice of tofu stuffed with greens and soybeans.

Sate Ayam (chicken satay) - excellent tender pieces of white meat in a thick peanut sauce drizzled with sweet soy sauce.

Empal Daging (broiled beef) - very tasty (the slices of beef are marinated in coconut juice) but a bit chewy. Sprinkled with fried shallots.

Ayam Goreng Kalasan (fried chicken) excellent and tasty; wish they would give you more than a 1/4 chicken.

Ayam Panggang (barbecued chicken) - my favorite of the entrees; very tasty paste with a bit of a kick. Finger lickin' good.

I also got my usual young coconut juice (served with generous strips of young coconut), gado-gado, ketoprak (rice vermicelli and tofu covered in peanut dressing), and es teler, es campur, and fried banana with ice cream for dessert. If you've never had the dessert beverages, try one in this hot weather!

I love this place - the food is good yet reasonable. Still BYO.
