Update on Raleigh (18 Seaboard, The Pit, The Mint)

Hi-- Thought I would let you all know about my recent experiences... 2 wonderful, 1 just so-so

I replied to a post about *The Mint* (downtown) here: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/507934. Had a wonderful time and was highly impressed.

I thought *The Pit* (downtown warehouse district) was uneven: great meats*, good off-menu wine selection, OK salad, fairly good dessert. My "cheese grits" thingy failed mightily, and they could stand to work on those breads a bit. Our waitress must have taken her waitressing training in a truckstop diner, buzzing around like a bumblebee in a clover patch. And the hostess? Well, not exactly the First Lady of Hospitality. (*rack of ribs and double-boned pork chops)

*18 Seaboard* (Peace College area) could not possibly have been any better. Not from the minute we walked in to the moment we left. Just wonderful! APPETIZER: Stump sound crispy oysters with apple horseradish slaw and Texas Pete aioli. For DINNER, the three of us each had: Braised short rib and fresh papperdale with tomato ragout and grana padano cheese; the special of the night mahi-mahi; and Pan roasted Arctic char with roasted Yukon gold potatoes, red peppers, asparagus, castelvetrano olives, and burgundy mustard vinaigrette. DESSERT: white chocolate creme brulee and a sticky toffee cake. Excellent service; impeccable drinks. Just really the best dining-out experience I have had in a very long time.
