Hi
Returning to Melbourne after 3 years for a week in early April and wondering where to go to eat. I've gone through the boards and they appear to be fairly quiet other than the great suggestions by Mr Gimlet, Kersizm, Phil D & Debbie. My shortlist of new ones (to me) so far are:
Oter
Embla (although not a fan of roast chicken and found Town Mouse ok rather than great the last time)
Ides
Philippe
Rosa's Canteen (liked Kitchen the last time)
Are Oter, Embla or Philippe better value for lunch than dinner?
I'll most likely return to:
St Crispin (unless that has declined)
Bistro Guillaume (for the lunch deal)
Rockpool Bar & Grill (for the burger)
Cumulus Up and/or Cumulus
Circa (hear it got another toque and most likely staying at the Prince)
The breakfast/ brunch places I have are:
Higher Ground
Hammer & Tong
I seem to be short on these so would appreciate recommendations here as well as other places.
The coffee places I liked the last time were:
Dukes
Padre
Anything else noteworthy coffee-wise? Basically more an espresso/ macchiato person than anything else.
Is Lune worth the early morning rise and queue? I've heard mixed reviews most saying it is good but some saying if you've been to Paris than no, it's not as good as say the likes of Des Gateaux et du Pain or Ble Sucre.
Also, I coincide with Good Food Week and saw two eating gigs - the wood-fired cooking and brunch ones that seemed interesting. Are these worth going to or am I better off just going to restaurants?
Oh and a steak place too, preferably with full blood wagyu. I did La Luna the last time and liked it but it was a bit of a schlepp for me and I did get lost pretty badly.
Thanks
