My 14-year old daughter and my wife will be visiting LA next week during our school break. My wife is Chinese, my daughter is a mix but she's fairly omnivorous; she likes sushi and sashimi, for example. They aren't looking for $200/plate dinners; they would be interested in finding out more about Mexican (which, to be frank, is awful in Toronto), and other interesting stuff they can find in LA (they will be staying in Beverly Hills), including markets (my wife is especially interested in finding big, juicy strawberries at farmer's markets, as all we get in Toronto these days are enormous pieces of red cardboard with a hint of strawberry flavour).
So, ethnicity is not an issue (two very beautiful women. though - sorry to say, safety is an issue, and it would be in many cities everywhere, so I hope no one thinks this is an aspersion on LA; I'd ask the same question about Toronto).
What do you think are great, not too expensive spots, to enjoy foods in LA that people just don't get in the Northeast?
