Uncle Eddy's Ice Cream - Buxton, NC

Hard by the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is one of the hidden gems of OBX. Uncle Eddy's has fantastic and inventive ice cream. For example, from the fig tree in his backyard, Uncle Eddy makes fig preserve ice cream with bits of fresh fig in a vaniila base. Rum Raisin has 2 kinds of raisins. Cocoa Coconut is as it sounds, and black forest is as authentic as could be (if black forest was an ice cream, not a cake) Also tasted was mango sorbet/gelato and raspberry and cream sorbet/gelato. I say sorbet/gelato because it had the lightness of sorbet and rich flavor of gelato. Traditional flavors and softserve available too. Uncle Eddy's is in an old house, with mini-golf in front. After(or before) you climb the lighthouse, don't hesitate to get dessert.
On this trip to OBX also went to Carl's in Fredericksburg and Doumar's in Norfolk, so my appreciation of Eddy's was a surprise even to me!
