Tzin (Edmonton)

Have walked by this place a bunch of times and it was always full. They are very tiny with maybe 20 seats tops, so filling up must be easy for them. However the fact that it was always busy really intrigued me and I've been meaning to try it for a while.

Got in last night (they were again full, and we had to wait for a table but they got us started with our wine and first appetizer at the bar).

The menu is "small plates"...we had 4 dishes between two of us and it was definitely enough for a dinner. I'm sure some people would be happy with 3 dishes between two people, especially since some of them are pretty rich. One dish per person would not cut it for dinner.

Anyways, mushroom and spinach tart, braised bacon crostini, grilled beef tenderloin, and patatas bravas were all yummy. We even saved enough room for dessert (made in house), which was a great gingerbread cake with salted caramel ice cream and salted caramel drizzle. Believe it or not, it avoided being too sweet.

The wines were good too. A little pricey at $12.50 or $13 per glass but that's typical for places that have a large selection by the glass, and the pours were generous too (6 oz).

Needless to say the atmosphere can be described as "cozy" and "intimate". Our hosts Glenn and Melissa were really knowledgeable and friendly.
