This is a dumpling for dessert.New restaurant Congee(98 Bowery 212-965-5028:opened a month ago)is serving this very hot and very very tasty thing.I've seen this dumpling in Hong Kong and Kobe in Japan, but I usually don't see in NY.It's a small fried round shaped pastry,size of a soup dumpling that is filled with mashed banana and red bean paste.The edge of this pastry is beautifully twisted,It looks like a UFO.Texture is very flaky because this is a pie,no wonton skin or dumpiling skin is used.It's $2.25 for 5 pieces.Although the menu is very interesting,I DO NOT recommend any other dishies at this place.One important tip.You have to eat this dumpling right away.You may burn your mouth but it's a part of fun, like eating soup dumplings.
