Truckee: Cottonwood

Seated on the Hilltop deck overlooking Truckee's downtown, facing the evening's setting sun, wrapped in the restaurant's blanket to ward off the chilly wind, is worth a repeat. We had two evenings' dinners at Cottonwood; Friday and Monday! Service; attentive and friendly. Crowd; casual and happy. Food; generous, full-flavored simple, satisfying fare. Good wine list and beers on tap.
The Seafood stew with cooked-just-to-perfection-with-a-deft-touch prawns, scallops, clams and andouille sausage is served in a richly celery-scented tomato-saffron broth on linguini. The NY steak was perfectly medium-rare as requested and is topped with gorgonzola and red pepper, plated boldly with a demi-glace. The Cheeseburger with Waffle fries is a tasty bargain at $10.95. The quickly-seared flank steak with roasted red potatoes and tomatoes is sliced thickly on the bias for tenderness.
We shared wonderful desserts: the Ginger Bread Pudding with Chantilly Cream and Caramel, and the Tiramisu. Do not forego desserts - they are temptingly delicious. If we had the time to enjoy a third night's dinner, I'd try the pinenut crusted basa and the pear crisp!
