Trip report from Toronto hound

This Toronto hound made it back to Chicago after a 3 year hiatus for a 4 day visit. I made a list of everyone’s recommendations from multiple threads posted by other travelers to your fine city. A very big thanks to all for helping me build a wonderful eating excursion. We ended up at:

Publican – loved the charcuterie, cured ham plate (especially the la quercia rossa), country rib and braised beef tongue. Beautifully executed and nicely balanced in flavor.

Bongo Room – the cannoli hotcakes were incredibly decadent with the pistachio cream and crème anglais.

Topolobampo – started off with a delicious passion fruit and orange agua fresco. Loved the ceviche yucateco, pollo en mole de tamarindo and the pan con chocolate. Service was friendly and attentive. The water refills were excessive, a little on the obtrusive side but entertaining.

Chicago Q – solid sampling of the pulled pork & brisket with the gigantic BBQ flight (I can’t believe that’s an appetizer). The fried green tomatoes were so thick that they didn’t get cooked all the way through unfortunately. Loved the baked beans and the ribs.

Doughnut Vault – met some lovely folks in the hour and 15 minute line up to get our donuts. Thank goodness the donuts were delicious (especially the chestnut & chocolate ones) because it was a cold and windy morning!

Glazed and Infused – much shorter lineup thankfully since the donuts were not as strong as Doughnut Vaults. Favourite of the four we tried was the vanilla bean glazed.

Little Goat Diner – fantastic service, delicious tempura mashed potatoes, solid sloppy goat and braised beef sammies made for a great lunch.

Frontera Grill – started with the grilled taco trio (loved it all – steak, catfish & pork) and almost ran out of room for the absolutely delicious duck in tamarind.

Wishbone – fast, efficient and tasty breakfast. The beef brisket hash was solid and so was the blackened catfish. Really enjoyed the home fries.

Do-Rite Donuts – loved the pistachio meyer lemon and the valhrona chocolate ones. Wished I had picked up more for the flight home ☹

Al’s – had to take the SO to try the italian beef. Personally it doesn’t do anything for me but always happy to partake in a Chicago tradition ☺

I’ve attached my pix of our eating excursion. Thanks again everyone!
