Recent Trip to Nashville

We only spent one night in Nashville this time.

We started with dinner at the Little Octopus. Fascinating menu. We began with the empanada of the day. The crust was perfect, but the seasonal filling was not very distinctive or flavorful. We followed up with an order of shrimp ceviche. The dish was described as prepared with charred lime/ spicy pepper salsa/herb emulsion. It was good, but not as flavorful as we expected. This may have been my fault. We enjoy spices, but don’t want them to overwhelm the main ingredient. I expressed this to our server. He may have passed on my concern, resulting in a reduced spice level. I almost forgot to mention that they have quite decent house wines.

Now, to the reason we would gladly return to Little Octopus --the best ever octopus dish. It was prepared with black lentil, chorizo, and scallion. Just absolutely wonderful. Who knew that octopus would pair so well with chorizo.

The next day we were in the mood for a burger. This was unexplored territory for us in Nashville. Based on reviews we went to the Burger Republic. Wow! Great burgers. We ordered the Shroomin’ and the Tennessee. Both were excellent. I considered removing the bacon as I find it to interfere with the burger taste I like. Not so with these. The bacon complemented the overall flavor.
