First Trip Down Hwy 61-A Few Questions (Bit Long)

For my 60th birthday, my wife is giving me something I’ve always wanted---a trip to Austin.

And, to make it even more special, we will go from Western KY to Memphis to travel down Hwy 61.

We will spend some time in Baton Rouge, then Lafayette, LA, then on to Austin.

I have a copy of Southern Belly (purchased on the advise of chowhound posts for trips to NC). We want to explore great local places throughout this trip.

Other than reading, I know nothing about local eats on Hwy 61. Nor in Austin (I have posted a similar message on the Austin site).

I know a bit about Louisiana. However, I welcome any and all recommendations.

We love BBQ, Cajun (gumbos, etoufees, boudin),seafood, Mexican, and just about anything interesting. We are primarily interested in great food at casual restaurants/cafes/bars. At the same time, we would not be adverse to something upscale and creative, as long as it reflected local produce.

A couple of specific questeions:

Is Morgan Freeman's place in Clarksdale really good, or does it just have a famous owner?

What about Doe's in Greenville? I don't normally go out for steak. We can do that at home. Yet, I see it referenced so often. Must be something there.

Thank you in advance for any and all advise.
