It has become aparent to me that I am never gonna find the time to write down all my opinions at once so I will give then to you a few at time. sorry about that I just don't have the time I thought I would.
First let me say I LOVED Austin....sprawling as it is I did like it.
OK down to business....
Louis M. in Taylor... they were out of Brisket when I got there so I got some links.
They were SOOO salty I could barely eat them. I remembered them as being SO delecious I saved the napkin for weeks afterwards just for the smell.
Went back a second time... SAME thing.... to me barely edible by themselves but would be awesome in a pot of beans... they were THAT salty.
When I did get the brisket it was a MAJOR dissapointment. It was nothing special not much smoke and too dry even on the fatty end.
Tried IT again and came up empty as well.
What on EARTH could be the problem !
Have the ribs in the freezer but nave not had a chance to try them yet.
Well to say I am disappointed in Louis would be an UNDERSTATEMENT !
Oh well...maybe some other time.
Now... Elgin sausage.
NOT at all what I expected. It tasted like breakfast sausage to me. I had never had it and I was shocked I was expecting it to be pit smoked and seasoned differently. But they say that there is nothing like the Elgin sausage and they are right I found myself wishing I had a plate of eggs to go with it.
Now... I brought some home and I will have another taste when I get to them BUT... for now I have to say it it really reminded me of Bob Evans (sorry).
Can someone PLEASE tell me how wrong I am I just did not see anything but Jimmy Dean.
OK one more...RO's BBQ...smoked brisket for almost 3 days?? Well... it was dry as paper and where the smoke taste went is a mystery to me. Really not even worth talking about.
Hahaha simply AMAZING.
SO.. so far if it sounds like I am not having a good time..well.. you would be wrong.... I was lovin it... every bit... Texas is WONDERFUL.. drove ALL over the place chasing Q.
So let me say that I will report in again on all the others as I get to them.
And as always I do welcome your comments.
And thanks SO much for your suggestions for the trip.
