Triangle: Gugelhopf Donuts

I stopped in at Gugelhopf Saturday morning and learned a few things. 1) You have to show up in the morning; by mid-afternoon everything is on the way to being stale. 2) Gugelhopf makes superb donuts, some of the best donuts I've ever had, right up there with the beignet at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. One bite will trigger the realization that Krispy Kremes are the lowest kind of junk food. My guess is that these are available only in the mornings or only on weekend mornings. I'd never seen them before. I only wish Gugelhopf offered a larger daily selection; as it is, some of their most delicious offerings, like the apple strudel, materialize only once in a while. Perhaps this problem will be fixed when they open their cafe.
