I can't believe that Rx has been around for over a year and we never got there before this weekend.
What a wonderful place!
This was a true combination of great food with friendly, attentive service in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. It's at 45th and Spruce, BYOB.
Please forgive me for not taking notes and remembering the various greens and vegetables we had. There were beautiful, perfect greens used throughout, and the vegetables that accompanied everything were so delicious that I could have made a meal of them.
My husband ordered from the menu, and was delighted with everything. His salad with beets and goat cheese had a dressing he mopped up. His entree was crispy skate, again with an unusual sauce. He finished with the homemade key lime pie that is a specialty.
And I - I ordered the newly added tasting menu, which was $40.00. OHMIGOD!!!!!
There were six courses, which change nightly. My descriptions are probably inaccurate, because I didn't write anything down - I was too busy oohing and aahing.
My meal included:
foie gras, done perfectly, accompanied by shitake mushrooms and a small, rolled and filled pasta thing - I used the Metropolitan bakery bread to mop up every last drop of the sauce. Heaven!
frogs leg, very meaty and crisp, accompanied by a salad with golden beet slices, great greens
tenderloin of suckling pig (my husband went crazy here, he was helping me, of course), accompanied by sweet cockles (baby clams) and greens
langostino, the sweetest, with slender pasta in a pesto sauce
rack of lamb, 3 chops worth - practically a full entree - again with great salad greens
(I think this was too much - they will lose money!)
dessert - strawberries with whipped cream and the kind of custard that goes under a creme brulee.
This tasting menu changes constantly, so if you want something in particular, you should call a day ahead and requests it.
My husband and I agreed that this was one of the best meals we had in recent months.
They take reservations - 215-222-9590.
Try it, and let us know your opinion.
And save me some foie gras!
A happy Sylvia
