transcendent (sp?) sable on a bagel/less brilliant corned beef hash

Had sable and cream cheese on a poppyseed bagel Sat. AM @ Sarge's. It was...transporting. Delicate flavor, creamy texture, huge (unbelievably huge) amounts of smoked fish. One of those culinary crises where it's so big that you could take half home and have it the next day, but it's so delicious that you can't stop eating it now. The only downside--some bones still in it. Had never been to Sarge's before--really liked the whole scene--gruff server who calls you hon--woman at the cash register (owner?) who, when I praised the sable, said she'd had it that AM too and agreed it was terrific, as did a guy, clearly a regular customer, in line after me to pay. Was there early on a Saturday (around 8:30 am) and pretty empty--more customers began to wander in as I was leaving.

Went back on Sun AM (9/11), restless and wanting to go someplace for breakfast. Ordered corned beef hash (saw blurb about it someplace). Disappointing. Even though they make their own corned beef, not such great corned beef flavor, a bit greasy, fried potatoes on the side a bit mushy, buttered rye toast didn't taste buttered w/ butter but some other kind of oleo spread. Oh well. Will still definitely go back!
