Tortas in Houston

This week's Chron review is about Tortas El Angel and it sounds pretty good.

I have never had a torta. There are 3 reasons: C'mon, Mexican food = tortillas, an Atkins inspired avoidance of bread, pasta, rice and potatos (not total abstinence), and, lastly, the bollilos I have purchased at panaderias have been like over-sized Mrs. Baird's sandwich rolls, soft, not very interesting, and often stale.

Alison Cooke makes the point in the review that the bread at this place is different, crusty, in a word.

Have I been missing something?

A search reveals only a couple of mentions of tortas in Houston in the past couple of years on this board. Any Hound been to this place yet. It seems more like a sports bar so I don't want to waste my money unless the food is really great.

Are there other Mexican places serving tortas that are good - both the bread and the fillings?
