Just back from the above. Topsail: Paliotti';s, at the Villa Capriani, was very good, everything we tried. Buddy's -- too many barflies and obnox. waitresses; food was fine, but it's not for families, IMO. Mollie';s: great breakfast. Blackbeard's: went back twice. Incredible gumbo -- the chef has the good sense not to ruin it by putting in green or red pepers, which IMO kills the taste of anything they go into that they are not supposed to be a major part of -- very spicey, full of rice, shrimp, toms. A lovely salad bar, which I didn't have, but a dining partner loved. Greaseless, light-as-air fried flounder. Wonderful waitress. A fun, airy dining room. Soundside: much more formal, too stuffy for us. The food tried to hard but was boring, even mediocre. Only one kids' item on the menu.
The pizxza parlor at the St. Regis in North Topsail GBeach had lousy food; we tried a variety of things and it was all awful.
Great homemade fudge at Topsail Trading Co.
OBX: peppery, incredible clam chowder at Black Pelican: Best dining experience (for me; my husband differs) at Tortuga's Lie I've had in 4-5 times there; we ate at the new portion of the bar and were well tended by the bartender. St. Martin's shrimp delicious, as was the salsa. My hubby less thrilled with his crab cakes. Chili wings appetizer was the hottest I'd ever had them, too hot for me, and I love hot food, but my hubby loved em. Bob's Grill: why do they cook the pancakes almost burned on one side, almost raw on the other, and tough as leather? Other than that, good breakfast, as is KEeper's Galley; huge portions, best hotcakes on the beach IMO. Very fast and very nice waitresses. New restaurant: Kill Devil Grill; didn't get to try it.
