I'm planning my company's Christmas party this year and am getting a really really early head start! There will be about 20 - 25 people, all flying in from the States. We don't see much of each other during the year, so our Christmas parties are always a major blowout.
The restaurant should have a private room, great atmosphere, fabulous food (all around: apps, mains and desserts), excellent (but not snobby) service, and a kick-a** wine cellar. Price isn't really an issue, as we usually end up spending about $500 a person (we all really like eating and drinking!).
Ideally, the restaurant should be within walking distance of a nice hotel. Most of these people will never have been to Toronto before, so I want a hotel in an interesting neighbourhood. I was originally thinking of booking hotel rooms at the Hyatt at Bloor/Avenue, so was going to focus on restaurants in the Yorkville area. But I don't want to exclude any great restaurants further downtown either. I've thought about Chiado (a personal favourite) and Perigee, but they are both off the beaten path and I would prefer that people be able to walk to and from their hotel. I also considered Rosewater Supper Club because of the beautiful private room they have, but the location always feels a bit desolate at night.
It would also be nice if there were a jazz club or other fun options nearby for after the party.
Whew. So... given that rather broad but demanding set of criteria, I'd love to hear suggestions from my fellow chowhounds!
