Miss Tootsie's

This may not be up alot of chowhounder's alleys but...we ate at Miss Tootsie's on Saturday night. What an amazing meal/experience.

First of all, it was pouring rain while I (with a sad excuse for an umbrella) ran from the car to the restaurant. Soaking and embarrassed, I spied my wife at a table and, much to my surprise, there was already a tasty biscuit awaiting me at my table. Our topshelf server Antonio quickly appeared with two towels(!) so I could dry myself off. I needed it.

Anyway, I went with the smothered pork chops (lightly breaded with lots of gravy on top), a side of collard greens and macaroni and cheese, my wife went with the same sides and the fried chicken. After a not-too-long but just-long-enough-wait (during which Antonio kept the buscuits and cornbread coming) our huge plates of food arrived. Everything, I mean everything, was so good. Obviously there had been care taken in the preparation of the food and it's presentation was very nice, without being too precious. Nothing "piled high", if you know what I mean. Plus, there was a wonderful soul music mix playing throughout (heavy on the Donna Summers).

I tried to finish my meal, I really did, but was unable. Antonio reappeared with "to go" cartons and I had the remnants for lunch the next day. No room for dessert so I cannot report on that. I am not sure how anyone could manage. Total bill $50.00, which included a mighty tip for Antonio.

SO, if it is soul food you crave, I highly recommend this place. 13th and South, BYO.
