After reviewing couple of previous posts I decided to give this place a try. Restaurant looked clean, good carpeting and clean table with glasstop and white tableclothes. The menu has lots of standard chinese american dishes - I skipped all that and asked the waitress for their specialties. It was not easy, but after I told the waitress I wanted Chinese Korean dishes like Gan Png Gi etc, then she started talking relevantly.
Gan Pong Gi chicken: my standard for this dish was established by the tiny San Leandro restaurant Golden Deli that is now no more. But at Tong Soon, the chicken did not have the same flour coatings. And it was not even close. The resemblance was only the small diced carrots. But Golden Deli had very delicious, slightly spicy, salty(not overly/just right) and sweet outer coating. Also it had very subtle saucing with slightly deep brownish red colour. Unfortunately this dish fell far short. So those of you who said this dish was great, well I have tasted the REAL thing and this is not it. I have tried THREE places and they all fell short: San Tung in SF and another place in Newark. I have given up !
Sweet sour beef: good crunchy coatings, sweet sauces - I don't think you can mess up on this dish. Even the Golden Deli made this dish the same way as everyone else. It's allright
Jjampong noodle is quite nice. Plenty of shrimps, couple scallops and good calamari pieces. The broth is not too spicy. Not my greatest favorite soup but it's ok.
Total bill $30 including tax and tip.
PS: I saw a nice Egg Fo Yong nearby.
It's on El Camino Real close to Korea BBQ (big sign). and a few blocks from Lawrence Expwy.
