Guess this has been chain day for me. This morning I stopped by the new branch of Korean chain, Tom N Toms Coffee in Santa Clara.
The espresso macchiato was too hot and blanketed with way too much foamed milk. Muddy and bitter, this was a lousy example of an espresso drink.
Much more interesting was the Italiano pretzel. These are prepped to order, rolling out the dough into a very thin oval, applying the toppings/fillings, then twisting and baking. I tried the Deli pretzel, $7.15, that has corn, ham, cheddar cheese and mustard. The finished result is sort of a combination of a stromboli and pizza pockets. The thin, crisp and lightly chewy crust serves as a minimalist carrier for the heavy filling. I liked it but found it too rich to eat more than a quarter first thing in the morning.
The place was pretty empty and quiet other than the roar of the kitchen hood. I made use of the free wifi and the clean restroom. These might be the best features here.

Opens at 9am daily (seems late for a coffeeshop)
PS: Last year I tried Big Mug, that is a couple doors down from Tom N Toms Coffee. Big Mug's coffee is far superior.
