Tom Jenkins BBQ

After several recommendations here on chowhound....I finally made my way to Tom Jenkins BBQ in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday afternoon....The smell eminating from the place let's you know their using real wood to smoke with and the pile of wood out back accentuates the smells.....I ordered a 1/2 BBQ Chicken and 1/2 slab of spare ribs...sides of cole slaw and corn on da cob.....But the meat is the thing....The chicken was very flavorable and reasonably moist....very tasty and satisfying.....The ribs were also very good...just a skosh dry but otherwise very, very good....Great smoky flavor and seasoned well.....The only pebble I could pitch their way is that they don't remove the membrane off the back of the ribs and that's Basic BBQ 101 and any BBQ aficionado knows this....I didn't care much for their sauce but that's a personal preference...But the meat is the thing and the meat was very, very good as restaurant quality BBQ goes.....This place has (obviously) been around for a while and has character...and there are characters there...and that makes it the wonderful place that it is......

I've had the opportunity to eat at many of the "mother churches" of BBQ....Sonny Bryan's in Dallas...Stubbs in Austin....Smoke Pit in Ft. Worth....Arthur Bryan's and Gates in K.C.....The Rendzevous and Corky's in Menphis....and on and on....And I think you can toss in Tom Jenkins in there on a good day....
