Tokyo and Kyoto with Kids

My wife and I will be visiting both cities in December with grandparents and our little ones (4yr and 1.5yr). We are really looking forward to sampling the many types of food in Japan. I'd love to get some suggestions, particularly places that are more kid-appropriate. (On a Tokyo business trip a few years back, colleagues introduced me to great yakitori. Those tiny smoke-filled joints have great atmosphere and great food, but I can hardly bring my kids. Any thoughts?)

I have a small wishlist and would appreciate any help on any of these cuisines.

Yakitori
Sukiyaki
Robatayaki
Kobe beef Teppanyaki. (been to New Otani hotel's grill and loved it. Could use suggestion in Nishi Shinjuku.)
Fugu

I've enjoyed the many informative postings on this board and will definitely head for the department store food floors and Tsukiji market.

Thanks
