Its a surprising trend as of late to not see any CH chatter about upcoming food events. ANd that's a shame, because you missed an excellent event held today in Scarborough.

TOFoodfest was along the lines of what TUM offered (minus the admission, alcohol, party atmosphere, etc) but had some exciting and excellent new food vendors. it was great because it highlighted some of Scarborough's new food vendors.

There were some amazing vendors and the food was at great prices. There were a few known faces, like Comida Del Pueblo and Rodney's Oysters, but there were some new vendors on the scene.

Our favourites:

How 'Bout Those Meatballs - making delicious and tender yet simple meatball sliders. He uses his Nona's recipe and man, they're the best meatballs I've tried in Toronto (California Sandwiches? Can't even compare the two. Sorry).

Bake'n - desserts that incorporate (you guessed it) bacon. Our favourite was the sticky toffee bacon cake.

Pavita Restaurant - a new restaurant to Guildwood. Its Indian food minus the ghee-induced heartburn and fat. The ingredients were tasty and the food he served was great. If today's samples were any indication, I'd definitely bump Pavita up to the top of Toronto's Indian restaurants' list.

Tacocat - Asian-style tacos. The chicken satay taco's supposedly great, but we tried the deep-fried squid tacos. Ummm, it might be early to say it, but I think the Big Two have a taco challenger...Keep an eye on these kids (they're literally kids...20 of them) because they're making great tacos and having fun while doing it.

There were a lot more vendors. The line-ups were, for the most part, manageable. THe food, for the most part, was excellent. And the vibe was nice and relaxed. I hope there are more TOFoodfests in the near future.
