Toasted Roux in oven.

I have alway's been taught equal amounts of oil or grease to equal amount of flour,yet when I read Alton Browns recipe it was 4 oz of oil to 4 oz of flour those 4oz of flour equal to 1 cup of flour which I did but it really came out dry has anyone else done that recipe??? and what did you think of it???and does anyone have a better recipe for toasting in oven????
