Dear Portland Foodies,
I will be visiting Portland for the first time at the start of March, so recommendations for all things related to food would be much appreciated!
I'll be travelling from Montreal, QC and have had my fill of British & French cuisine, so that's not what I'm looking for. I'm hesitant about Japanese food, since Vancouver and Japan have made me quite picky. Don't get me wrong though; I love good seafood! Otherwise, I would like to sample what Portland has to offer, what I wouldn't be able to taste elsewhere-- local ingredients, wines, beers. I'm up for anything (no particular dislikes, no diet restrictions). Are there any bars/restaurants that, to you, just speaks "Portland"? That restaurant you think of when you miss your city? Any that offer a nice selection of local wines or beers? I also noticed that some have mentioned food carts, when asked for suggestions, so a few specific recommendations would be great.
In addition, I may get a chance to venture out of the city to Willamette Valley. Are there any lovely wineries with good restaurants? I think time will be limited, hence visiting both a winery and restaurant in one go would be ideal. Hopefully not too far, around 1.5hr drive from the city.
Lastly, any good value wines that you would suggest seeking out? If so, which Portland wine shops would you recommend?
Sorry for the number of questions, but I would be truly grateful for any advice! Googling is just not the same as chowhound.
