First Time at Family Restaurant Since the Switch -Longish

We finally made it back to Brookline to Family Restaurant..and what a change! I remember it from back in its Washington square days as a good greasy spoon but I'll take this new iteration any day.

Not realizing the enormity of the portions, we totally over ordered. That being said...loved the eggy sesame bread and fresh white bean salad that comes at the beginning. For an appetizer we ordered the eggplant in yogurt sauce from the specials menu. Hours later and I'm still thinking about how delicious it was. Tender, marinated eggplant and garlicky, tangy yogurt. The flavors complimented rather than competed. A fresh shepherd's salad followed (that was a small?). It reminded me of the chopped salads that mom (Israeli) made most nights with dinner.

I got the grilled kafte which were tender, perfectly spiced and came with two different kinds of pilaf and grilled and fresh vegetables. My husband got one of the pizzas (with the Turkish sausage) which was just okay. I saw lamajeun on the menu and wonder if it is similar to the Armenian lamajeun that I love so much. Has anyone tried it?

Sadly there was no room for dessert but they did look wonderful. As it was we took home plenty of delicious leftovers. Any dessert recommendations? And has anyone tried any of the Turkish sodas or juices on the menu?

Next time we'll have a bigger group and try more...can't wait!
