my husband and i, in our endless quest for deliciousness (and obesity, apparently), have decided it's time to get a fryer so that we can have fried chicken, potato chips, donuts whenever we want. so i started investigating deep fryer machines. then, someone told me that it's better to just do it in a pan (is there science behind this?) so i was thinking, well, maybe given my small kitchen, it would be better to just fry things in my staub. but then i thought, wouldn't it be better overall to have a unit that would store the oil so it would be less wasteful?
what are your thoughts? and ultimately, where does the food turn out better? i'm guessing whichever is easier to maintain oil at the right temp... but i'm not sure whether that would be manual or a machine.
also, if you advocate using a pan - what do you think about fry baskets? useful or is a slotted spoon enough?
