So... as a (very) early birthday gift (my birthday isn't until May 22, but the store we got it from was going out of business and had a fantastic sale), my parents got me a Sodastream. I tried their soda syrups and they're... not great. Taste way too diet for my tastes. So, as a result, I've been making my own homemade syrups for soda (using actual sugar... not diet sugar substitutes).
This is going well except for one problem... the syrups you can buy are very, very, very concentrated. I usually only need about 1/4 cup or less for 4 cups/1 liter of seltzer. However, I need at least 1/2 cup of the syrups I make at home, if not more, for the same amount of seltzer.
My questions are... how do I thicken up my homemade syrups so I need less for 1 liter of seltzer? With fruit syrups where I'm using actual fruit (like mixed berry sodas), I think it's just a matter of making a direct fruit concentrate instead of using water and sugar to make a simple syrup and then masticating the fruit in that? And what about if a syrup recipe calls not for fruit, but for fruit juice and concentrate (like a recipe I found for a syrup that's similar to Mountain Dew... it calls for lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice concentrate... no fruit pieces)?

ETA: Is it just a matter of leaving it on the heat longer so it reduces further?
