I was on my way over to try Mint Thai in Gilbert when I found another Thai place that looks like it *just* opened, called Siam Orchid, located on the southeast corner of Guadalupe and Gilbert. Granted, I wouldn't know what authentic Thai food was if it walked up and bit me on the behind, but it tasted pretty darn good, and that's all I care about. I had their pahd gra-tiam with chicken- in case you haven't heard of it, it's chicken (or pork if you want) sauteed in a garlicky pepper sauce. Since I haven't had too much experience with thai (the first 20 years of my life were pretty much living under a culinary rock that was first the East Valley then a college campus) but have had enough to know I like it fiery, I forgot that the thing to look for when you want spicy thai isn't as much "pepper" as it is "chili", so it wasn't quite what I had hoped for; the problem was quickly alleviated by a double dose of their spicy sauce with those deeeelicious Thai bird chilies (why do I call them chiles with mexican food and chilies with thai?). My mouth was on fire, my eyes were watering, it was great. The people who run the place are really, really nice, and were ready to do just about anything to make sure I was happy. I'll definitely be going back.
BTW their website isn't up and running yet, but I figured I'd list it just in case they get it up and running any time soon.
