Terroirs report [Central London]

Jenny Sheridan | Dec 19, 200808:35 AM     1

Most of the food is in the form of 'small plates' - bigger than tapas, but you probably need four or five between two of you. Mostly French or Spanish. We had a wonderful ventreche Noir de Bigorre - thinly sliced ham-like meat piled on a wooden platter. Soft polenta with wild mushrooms was silky but strong, clams were served in a small iron casserole and were spiced with garlic and chilli. The green salad was well dressed. Piperade was the only unsuccessful dish but came with an extremely good chorizo. These dishes cost around £6 each. Plats du jour eg slow-cooked pork belly or boudin noir with fried eggs and wild mushrooms (next time!) are £10 - £12.
There's a small interesting cheese list, Italian and French, well priced at £3 per cheese.
Unfortunately we had no room for Agen prune and armagnac tart or crepes with salted butter caramel.
The wines are almost all French and bio-dynamic or organic. They are well served in handsome glasses by knowledgeable people. We had a cracking Corbieres.
It's near Charing Cross and will probably be unbearably crowded over the Christmas period.
