Must have walked by Martha Frances (Second Ave, near 88th St., next to Elaine's) a zillion times and never noticed. We went in this evening and what a treat. Owned by a lovely woman named Jan, who is truly devoted to what she's doing. Huge assortment of wonderful cheesecakes, excellent coffee, and we had a banana pudding that knocked my socks off. She is a delight to talk to, full of information and stories...she's from Mississippi and her recipes come from her southern family...pecan pie, sweet potato pie, chocolate cake, cupcakes, key lime pie, apple pie, etc., etc. Great music (jazz) playing (she's a classical pianist by training). She's been there 2 1/2 years. This place is a treasure - I think there are 4 tables total. It's open from 11am until 11pm, 7 days a week. Serious baking going on in there. I will be back - all the time.
