Terried Sake, WLA - Japanese rest. review

Last night a friend introduced me to Terried Sake,
11617 Santa Monica Blvd. at Barry. Not the greatest atmosphere but a really cool selection of different sakes, sushi and Japanese snacks. We ordered the unfiltered sake (Niguri) which looks like rice milk and comes in a sake box. It's fruity and to my taste much tastier than regular sake. We ordered the "baby squid steak" -- nothing to do with a steak though, it's little calamari rings grilled on an iron plate with a little soy sauce, kind of like Japanese calamari fajitas -- completely addictive. We also had teriyaki corn -- just corn on the cob with a little teriyaki thrown on the grill, but very tasty. We had some rice cakes -- triangular cakes of toasted rice with bonito flakes, more filling than flavorful. And some chicken/eggplant yakitori sticks, only $1.00 each, very nice. And some yellowtail sushi, and an excellent spicy tuna roll (no nasty mayonaisey stuff). All this food, two orders of sake and a beer came to just $36.00. And they're open until around midnight. Definitely a Chowhound kind of place, I'll be back after a movie at the Royal or the Nuart.
