Temecula Olive Oil

Angie | Nov 29, 200509:06 AM

I went to Temecula last week in search of oil.

I had tasted some good olive oil at the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival in October and when I discovered the company that made it was based in Temecula, I figured it was worth a trip. If you haven’t been to Old Town Temecula lately or ever (as in my case), it is just a block off the I-15. The city has put recently put a lot of money and effort into redeveloping this historic area. Think Julian with better freeway access.

Lots of antique shopping, plenty of places to eat. But I was looking for oil. I hit paydirt in the historic Welty Building. Once a saloon and brothel, it now houses the Temecula Olive Oil Co. In the tasting room in the back of the shop, you can try everything before you buy. The owners are there tending the olive oil bar and will answer all of your questions. You can taste a half a dozen different varieties of locally produced olive oil, as well as other gourmet food items like salsas, jams, mustards, sea salt, and honey.
