I'm trying to pick a restaurant to take an out of town houndish friend to next Friday. We're aiming towards a tasting menu, most likely, but are open to other options. The added wrinkle is that she's jewish, though not full kosher, here's how she put it:
I'm kosher-lite. I don't mind the mixing of poultry and milk-products, and while I will eventually remove shellfish from my diet completely, I haven't quite managed yet. So really, I'm flexible-- just no pork, no red meat and dairy. Fully vegetarian is fine, seafood is fine, anything with a good range of options on the menu is probably fine.
Also, she's specifically looking for European-influenced menus, not things that are farther afield on the ethnic spectrum.
I've suggested Perigee, Splendido (tasting menu is a little heavy on the pork, so she nixed that), Senses, and Susur (a little pricy, and we're both put off by the service issues).
I'm guessing Perigee will handle this pretty well, with the pre-dinner interview thing to cover her preferences. What about Senses? I remember hearing they had a 14 course tasting menu that was really good, but is it flexible or is she going to end up not eating half of the courses?
Any other options that I should be considering?
